Tryout Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria SPRING 2026

1. Tryouts will start on Monday, February 23.
2. MANDATORY: Go to the Athletic Registration Tab on the top of this page and Register for Boys Tennis and turn in your Sports Physical. You must be cleared to tryout.
3. There will be 3 days to tryout.
4. 12 to 18 players will make the team.
5. Criteria to be selected are:
   1. Varsity Tennis Skills right now. Projected to be a Starter this year and the top Alternates.
   2. Projection to be able to play Varsity Level in the future.
   3. Also considering being a Team Player, Leadership, Ability to learn and Attitude.
6. You must be in good standing with FCPS and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE BOYS TENNIS TEAM

1. Must have 2 tennis racquets (Racquet provided for Tryouts if needed).
2. Uniform shirt will have to be purchased by the participant (approximately $30. It will be yours to keep- if you need assistance let Coach know). You will be required to provide your own black tennis shorts for matches.

1. Be a Great Teammate!
2. Be at Practice!
3. Work Hard at Practice!
4. Be Considerate!
5. Be Respectful!
6. Clean Up After Yourself and Your Teammates!
7. Root for Your Teammates!
8. Be Grateful that you get to represent TJ!
9. Practice Sportsmanship!
10. Communicate with Coach!
11. And after you have done all the 10 things listed above- Win your Match!
